The most powerful weapon in this world

This solo exhibition of three experimental portrait-based films (Joy on Toast, Nasty Piece of Stuff and Inside Man) was specifically commissioned by Alessandro Vincentinelli (Senior Curator and the Head of Exhibitions) and Laurence Sillars (Chief Curator) of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead. The installation was designed and built especially for the Baltic and was timed to accompany the major Jenny Holzer exhibition in 2010. This exhibition is significant in that these works were brought together for the first time, in an installation that created an opportunity to really question perception and identity. The methodologies used to create these works are connected: the participants were interviewed and recorded using only audio. This approach allows creative invention within the editing process of both the audio and the visual elements which deconstructs the conventions of the ‘talking head’ interview.
