Description: | A single channel video that depicts the interior of a building during reconstruction. As the sun rises the mechanics and infrastructure of the interior are slowly revealed until workers arrive to inhabit the space and continue their work on the building’s transformation. Commissioned by The Swiss Church, Covent Garden to respond to the rebuild of the church (designed by Swiss Architects Christ and Gantenbein), In time 4.14 – 6.02 focuses upon the material state of building as it undergoes its transformation. Consisting of one continuous shot, the film through the precise framing and duration of the image, deliberately empties out the religious significance of the building (no recognizable features of church architecture are in frame). As such it questions how perception can be manipulated through lens based media and the contextualizing of work and how systems of belief inform and influence modes of representation. |
