A Catalogue of Errors

This exhibition develops Wainwright’s exploration of an artistic response to climate change by focussing on recent events in Japan before and after the Tsunami. Wainwright was commissioned by the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation to make the exhibition as part of its 2013 programme following his recent visits to Japan and the Tohoku region. The artefacts continue Wainwright’s exploration of semaphore as a semi-obsolete signalling system by incorporated it into a series of photographic performances and actions made at night sited adjacent to places where there have been natural disasters or sites of environmental sensitivity due to human intervention and resource exploitation.
