Description: | Wainwright created a light installation for the Kodai-ji temple in Kyoto. The exhibition, entitled 'The Moons of Higashiyama' is curated by Taisuke Morishita and the Ginza Art laboratory, Tokyo and sought to harmonise experimental artefacts with the traditional Japanese setting using the full moon as the theme. The work takes the form of a lenticular image in which the photographs change as they are viewed from different angles. One photograph depicts the moon with a man’s face from a medieval stained glass window which refers to the pre-Christian belief that the moon has a dominant influence over humanity. The other depicts Buzz Aldrin's helmet photographed by Neil Armstrong as he takes part in the Apollo 11 moon landing. |
