Melvin, Jo (2011) Kantor in London: from David Gothard's archives. In: Kantor was here: Tadeusz Kantor in Great Britain. Black Dog, London, pp. 88-98. ISBN 9781907317323

Type of Research: Book Section
Creators: Melvin, Jo
Description:

A photographic commentary appearing in a volume published in association with the exhibition 'An impossible journey: the art and theatre of Tadeusz Kantor', which the author curated, and the symposium 'Kantor was here' both at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia, Norwich, 2009.
The photographs are taken by Chris Harris and Ian Knox of Riverside studios formerly the site for filming the BBC's Dr Who. The photographs show how the venue came to be selected by Kantor and his UK based collaborators for his first London performance when with Cricot 2, The Dead Class by Stanisław Witkiewicz. They include images taken in the green room as well as the performance itself and the audience. This was simultaneous with Kantor's retrospective at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1976 curated by Nicholas Serota.
