Description: | 'Your Higher Plane Awaits' is an installation of photo collages. It was first exhibited in 'ART NOW, Clunie Reid and James Richards' at the Tate Britain, London (2010). Continuing Reid's research with the forms and operations of popular imagery, the work comprises 60 large format black and white high-gloss silver inkjet prints of re-photgraphed photo-collages. Fixed directly to the wall with broad black gaffer tape and over-written with scribbled text, annotations and alterations, the work presents the viewer with a huge, dense and excessive, barrage of images. The scale and high-gloss surface of the prints complicate the images through the apparent insertion of the viewer's own reflection in the collage. The obvious and very physical manipulation acts to undermine the otherwise familiar and normalising language of advertising imagery. The work was later shown in 'Accidentally On Purpose' at QUAD, Derby, (July- October 2012). This exhibition was reviewed in Art Monthly (Sept. 2012). |
