Time's Printless Torrent

An essay on - and in response to - the film 'La Pluie (Projet pour un texte)' by Marcel Broodthaers (1969). This text was first published in the catalogue for 'Presentness is Grace: Experiencing the Suspended Moment', an exhibition of contemporary art at Arnolfini, Bristol, in 2001–2. Curated by Catsou Roberts, this show included works by Darren Almond, Zeyad Dajani, Antony Hall, Marine Hugonnier, Pierre Huyghe, Ann Veronica Janssens, Nina Katchadourian, Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen, Corey McCorkle and Hideyuki Sawayanagi. Lucy Steeds proposed the simultaneous screening of the Broodthaers film in interstitial spaces at Arnolfini and her text was subsequently republished in 'Art In-Sight/Filmwaves', no.18, Spring 2002.
