Description: | During the early 1980s a group of fashion designers emerged from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts and established the city as the centre for radical fashion design. Trained by designer Linda Loppa, the original ‘Antwerp Six’ consist of Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck and Marina Yee (Margiela was the unofficial seventh member). All of them have challenged the traditional systems of the fashion world, adopting a deconstructivist, avant-garde approach that has heavily influenced contemporary fashion. |
