Description: | An exhibition in book form, constructed as an integral part of an ongoing research project that explores the relationship between drawing, writing and literacy, Eleven Pictures You Cannot Paint was written by a painter working as Principal Investigator in an AHRC funded network collaboration with RMIT Melbourne 2011- 2013 as a description of an exhibition that can only exist as words. The invitation to publish came from Metasenta Publications (which was then an international research centre based at RMIT) as a result of a related paper ‘Palin and the Bear’, an exploration of the relationship between writing, drawing and notation, delivered as a Keynote speech at the ‘Drawing Out 2010’ conference (RMIT Melbourne). The book aims to map the edges of the relationship between painting, drawing and writing, and explore the relationship between publishing and exhibiting. |
