Description: | Curated by Clarke, No Letters was originally conceived as a book and later developed as a gallery exhibition. The project investigates the dissemination of public information through various forms of reportage, carried out on both local and global levels. The collective works which spanned 40 years, sought to debunk the public perception of current affairs, advertisements and everyday information as they are perceived by the public, revealing realities obscured beneath familiar yet effective tactics of distraction and deception employed by the media. The selected artworks tackled these issues through reprographic and audio-visual techniques commonly used by the media at the time of their conception. Works exhibited at Nettie Horn Gallery were selected by Caroline Douglas, Head of the Arts Council Collection for Space Now at SPACE Triangle, London which also included works by Bridget Riley, Yinka Shonibare and Mark Wallinger. An online interview with Clarke was presented by SPACE on their website. The book was exhibited by invitation at the London Open 2012 at the Whitechapel Gallery. |
