Description: | Personal Vista is a wall painting by Sturgis commissioned for the exhibition ‘Superabundant: A Celebration of Pattern’ at Turner Contemporary Project Space. This was the first wall painting Sturgis had created in the UK (others have been made in the Netherlands and Austria). ‘Superabundant’ was selected and curated by Louise Taylor, a freelance curator and writer and former director of the Crafts Council, and Victoria Pommery OBE, Director of Turner Contemporary. The exhibition brought together work by nine international artists who make use of pattern and decoration in very different ways, some adopting a systems approach to pattern, others more fluid and organic. ‘Superabundant’ re-evaluated the legacy of the ‘pattern and decoration’ movements in art making in the 1970s against the broader history of painting, design and popular culture. |
