Description: | A collaboration between science and art supported by The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the Dress of Glass and Flame continues a 15-year practice of utilising the ‘dress’ as a means to elucidate science in new ways. The material research challenge sought to make a sustainable connection between how the piece was created, through intense heat, and its life as a work of art thereafter, keeping the viewer engaged with the alchemic process by which glass is made. The dress is lit with flame within, reflecting long considered questions as to whether glass is a liquid, or a solid. The Dress of Glass and Flame was part of the group show, 'Glasstress: White Light/White Heat', curated by James Putnam and Adriano Berengo shown as part of the Venice Biennale. A short film was made of the making process and thinking behind the piece and a web presence created to support the early stages of the project. |
