| Description: | This set of nine paintings by Hogan deal with Ian Hamilton Finlay’s garden ‘Little Sparta’, in which sculptural and poetic elements are fused with the natural landscape. This set of artworks is part of a series by Hogan on Little Sparta, made over a period of 12 years that concluded in 2012, including portraits of Hamilton Finlay made during his life time and posthumously. The exhibitions at the Fleming Collection and YCBA expanded to include drawings, sound (extracts of a life story recording made with Hamilton Finlay for the Artists’ Lives project at the British Library’s ‘National Life Stories’ and heard for the first time at the Fleming Collection exhibition) and archival material. |
