Description:	The lecture examined how a vision of England was formed during wartime and served to mobilise men and women to fight for their country during the privations and dangers of the First World War. Through an assessment of the representation of pastoral imagery in art, literature and propaganda and contrasting this with the real experience of wartime in rural England, Caroline Dakers highlighted the material and ideological impact of the war on the countryside.
