Description: | A public talk relating the work of Dorothy Iannone to concerns in my own practice/research, during the exhibition 'Dorothy Iannone: Innocent and Aware': Artist Emma Talbot talks about narratives of self-reflection in her own work and gives a context to her ideas through looking at artists and writers whose use of personal subject matter closes the space between life experience and the making of artworks. The talk examined ideas of the self-reliant individual voice and acts of personal recounting, by looking at the use of direct drawings and reflective texts in visual artwork to openly relate anecdotes (In Greek: ‘unpublished’, literally ‘not given out’). With a particular focus on the interweaving of the personal with the poetic, Talbot discussed the experience of relationships as subject matter including Iannone and Dieter Roth, Anais Nin and Henry Miller, Hans Bellmer and Unica Zurn. |
