Looking at and locating fashion imagery in studies of visual culture: Post-war fashion media & art historical perspectives

McDowell, Felice (2012) Looking at and locating fashion imagery in studies of visual culture: Post-war fashion media & art historical perspectives. In: Working Papers in Fashion Studies 2. London College of Fashion, London. ISBN 978-1-903455-26-5

Type of Research: Book Section
Creators: McDowell, Felice
Description:

This article looks at how the discipline of art history has utilised fashion imagery and media as a historical source to discuss themes of high and low culture, gender, and the role of the artist and culture in post-war Britain. I argue that it is not until this form of visual fashion culture is examined in its own terms that the complexity of fashion media's various meanings and values can be drawn out and then employed to re-look at histories of art and visual culture.
