Description: | Runge’s 'The Times of Day' cycle presents a complex semiotic matrix on concepts of time drawing on empirical as well as intuitive knowledge (biology, theology, geometry, astronomy, mythology and cosmology). His four drawings were first published as engravings in 1805. The complete work has been edited as digital formats to produce an edition of photo etchings. The resulting primary structures appear to be bereft of traces of historicity and manual labour. The project was developed in consultation with Dr. Hannah Hohl, during her tenure as director at the Kupferstichkabinett, Kunsthalle Hamburg. |
