Description: | This work is constructed from several tough, dense hawthorn roots spliced together. Rather than one root, Grace Adam spliced together several to give the piece an awkwardness that reminds the viewer that all sorts of people’s lives have passed through this area. Most lives don’t run smoothly, and the memorials in the church attest to changes of plan and unforeseen circumstances. Some people attended this place regularly, some were buried here. Some left this area for faraway destinations. Some lived and died peacefully – others not. It’s a tangled affair. Seven Dials Lives is grey, black and white to reflect the dramatic monochrome colour scheme of St Giles’ tiled floor. Constructed from hawthorn roots, Acrylic paint, silver wire. |
