Description: | Let’s Go Out! is an action developed by Dutch artist, Yeb Wiersma, and Irish graphic designer, Paul Bailey, involving the re-publication of the Futurist manifesto ‘L’Arte dei rumori’ written by Luigi Russolo in correspondence with Francesco Pratella in 1913-14. This act of re-publishing took its form upon banners and signs containing Russolo’s original sound-words held high by forty participants moving through the streets of Maastricht, the Netherlands. The procession was choreographed to a new score, composed by Robert Platz and conducted by Wolfgang Delnui, which drew upon the dynamics of the city from a 1914 map of Maastricht. Six walks took place, directing a live orchestra of Russolo’s sounds through specific aspects of the city and concluding in the Vrijthof square. — Rumori, a typeface specifically commissioned for the Let’s Go Out! action, was designed by Paul McNeil. It operates as a tool to bridge the resounding noises of Russolo’s past once again in our present, and onwards into the future. Rumori was drawn in January 2014 and is based on 10 characters shown of the front cover of 'L’Arte dei rumori' published in Milan 1916. The Rumori typeface has been developed in three alternative versions: Chiari (a clean, sharp contour), Levigati (a soft contour) and Grezzi (a rough contour). The variant typefaces are intended to replicate the appearance of the original wood letters. A full Latin 1 character set and a limited range of alternates is available in each contour. |
