Description: | ‘Paula Rego: Printmaker’ is an extended essay commissioned from the author by Marlborough Fine Art and Talbot Rice Museum, Edinburgh, for the illustrated catalogue to accompany the touring exhibition of Rego’s graphic work. My essay reveals Rego’s working method, and places her prints within the overall context of her practice. The essay contains much original research evidenced over a 20-year period of collaboration with the artist, including first hand observation and hitherto unpublished stage proofs revealing the progression and development of images from first stage to final print. |

Additional Information (Publicly available): | The essay is featured in its entirety on the Saatchi Gallery website (www.saatchigallery.co.uk/artists/paula_rego_about.htm) The text builds upon previous published writings by the author on Rego including a chapter on her printmaking techniques included in T.G. Rosenthal, ‘Paula Rego: The Complete Graphic Work’, 2003, Thames & Hudson ISBN 0 500 093156 and in a chapter devoted to her printmaking in Fiona Bradley ‘Paula Rego’, 2002 Tate. ISBN 1854373889. Together these form key texts in an understanding of the role of printmaking within Rego’s overall practice. |
