Provisional Yes

Provisional Yes is a literal and metaphorical engagement of both rudimentary pragmatics and creative strategy.

Improvised furniture exploring alternative use, regeneration and deployment of apparently redundant or un-needed artifacts and products. The exploration extends beyond simple relocation of same function and second hand redeployment to consider unorthodox reincarnation and metaphorical, conceptual and poetic potential.

Provisional Yes accommodates enhancement. Pushing beyond pragmatic adhoc to poetic adhoc.

The methodology proposes a visual audit centred on evaluation of attributes and potentialities. Objects are grouped and regrouped in differing taxonomies, weight, sharpness, light emission, containment, hardness, flexibility and so on emerging from the audit process. It aims to find and deploy varied, new, overlooked, unexpected juxtapositions and functionalities.

Stuff, the 2015 MA Industrial Design (MAID) degree show, provided a first manifestation of Provisional Yes strategy. Orange coloured studio chairs, normally cleared and stored are redeployed. Co-opted in the exhibition display they are stored in plain sight. Functionally re-employed, visually reframed the pragmatic stuff of the everyday studio becomes theatrical stuff and the exhibition's visual signature.

Tabloid
A hybrid construct resembling a small, low table made, in part, from London’s free, non-broadsheet, recyclable newspapers. The tabloid’s paper surface invites daily renewal. Resurfaces freely available daily from all underground and mainline stations in the greater metropolitan area
