Description: | DreamMakers is a UK wide project with young people between 13 and 19, designed and led by artist Eva Sajovic, based around the themes of identity, community, dreams and aspirations. Groups of young people from Roma, English Gypsy, Irish Traveller and Non Roma backgrounds in 4 different locations UK-wide (Glasgow, Bolton, Peterborough and Walthamstow) were equipped with journalistic skills and the tools (photography, sound, video) to go out into their communities to research, record and discuss issues of relevance in their communities, which impact on the aspirations of young people through a process of social documentation. |

Additional Information (Publicly available): | Groups of young people from Roma, English Gypsy, Irish Traveller and Non Roma backgrounds in 4 different locations UK-wide (Glasgow, Bolton, Peterborough and Walthamstow) will be equipped with journalistic skills and the tools (photography, sound, video) to go out into their communities to research, record and discuss issues of relevance in their communities which impact on the aspirations of young people through a process of social documentation. The aim of this project is to attempt to dispel prejudices among Roma, English Gypsy and Non Roma, encouraging the groups to work together, sharing skills and experience, towards a celebration of culture, a fusion of tradition and modern attitudes and to look forward to the future. It is also hoped that the project would be sustainable, serve as a model for inter cultural exchange and promote positive relationships using technology. The project has been set up by Eva Sajovic in collaboration with 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning and supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation. (Source: http://dreammakersuk.tumblr.com/about) |
