Nguyen, Rosa and Furukawa, Chisen (2005) Dialogue. [Art/Design Item]

Type of Research: Art/Design Item
Creators: Nguyen, Rosa and Furukawa, Chisen
Description:

Work produced as part of an inter-disciplinary collaboration project first established during a research period in Japan investigating traditional and contemporary Japanese Ikebana practice. I was selected to present a collaborative installation with Chisen Furukawa, a Tokyo based artist and Ikebana Sensei. (www1.ttcn.ne.jp/~chisen/index.htm). Projects were supported by the Arts Council, The Daiwa Foundation and the Crafts Council.
This exhibition explored the interface between the ceramic object, architecture and the natural environment. The use of flowers and grasses played an integral part to this piece and led me to focusing on the life and movement of plants as a visual and dynamic connecting force in further research (Crafts Council research travel award Japan 2004 to investigate Ikebana practice) and projects. (‘Shape, Surface, Structure’ at Axis gallery, Tokyo, March 2005 and ‘Atrium’ PricewaterHouse Coopers, London, May 2005.)
I have continued to work with flowers and other botanical elements in extending further the nature of ‘interdisciplinary’ in my practice through the creation of a series of hybrid objects. These were presented in solo show at the Tino Zervudachi gallery Paris. (November 2005 – Jan 9 .2005 www.mlinaric-henry-zervudachi.com); at Group Exhibition: OFF THE PLINTH These works were illustrated in a monograph in World Contemporary Ceramic Public Art -Hunan Fine Art Press,.( www.pamelairving.com.au/YushanArt.htm - 4k). Other projects including ‘Sakura’ a window display commissioned by London florist Moyses Stevens and ‘Adornement’ a series of displays for the retail space at Bamfords in London, has continued to broaden the context for this area of research. ‘Breakers’ was reviewed in Ceramic Review Sept/Oct, 2006 and Crafts Sept/Oct 2006. Moyses Stevens have recently commissioned me to design a limited edition Valentines vessel. www.moysesflowers.co.uk.
