Description: | Cycling '74 creates software for the specialized needs of artists, educators, and researchers working with audio, visual media, and physical computing. One of their products, Max, is a programming environment which connects objects with virtual patch cords to create interactive sounds, graphics, and custom effects. It is used in over 1500 institutions and companies worldwide. (Source: https://cycling74.com/) Marechal has been teaching Max software since 2007 at the London College of Communication (LCC). From research beginning in November 2009, Marechal has created 'Max for the Visual Arts'. This is a self-learning tool and a repository for the Max patches made or used on the BA Interaction Design and Arts (IDA) and the MA Interactive Design Communication (IDC) at LCC. 'Max for the Visual Arts' consists of around 900 little programs to help students with prototyping their interactive projects. In April 2016, Cycling '74 decided to incorporate Marechal's 'Max for the Visual Arts' into the main distribution of their Max software (https://cycling74.com/max-package-manager-list/). 'Max for the Visual Arts' is already being used in the UK and internationally by: Central Saint Martins; the Information Experience Design programme at the Royal College of Art; the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College of London; New York University; and the Università Iuav di Venezia (University of Venice). |
