Description: | The Vulgar is an exhibition at Barbican Art Gallery. What is it that makes something vulgar? This sumptuous exhibition explores notions of vulgarity in the fashions of the renaissance and the 18th century, while also celebrating contemporary designers who boldly revel in the excesses and delights of ‘the vulgar’. Judith Clark was the curator and exhibition designer, with text by Adam Phillips, and co-authored the catalogue, published in October 2016. There was an associated installation in Selfridges concept store window, and UAL symposia celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Florence Biennale, 1996, with small additional publication. |
