Description: | Spoken word audio-visual performance Since 1872, traditionally on a Sunday, people have gathered at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London, for lively open-air public speaking, debate and discussion. Speakers’ Corner is a place named and determined by performance. This audio-visual performance recontextualises images and sounds captured at Speakers’ Corner as an examination of the dynamics of the performance of opinion and belief. The visuals result from ongoing experiments with digital-analogue frameworks for image-based performance, using live sampling and editing based on the Thaumatrope, a 19th century pre-cinematic toy. The sound combines recordings of speakers with their live spoken word re-articulation. |
