Description: | A series of 33 photographs of Spiti, including two historical photographs by John Coldstream, courtesy of the British Library within a group exhibition entitled Origins held at the British Council gallery in Delhi. This initiative by the British Council and Alkazi Foundation for the Arts called PHOTOUKINDIA, promoted the works of emerging and established photographers from the UK and India. Origins featured 31 narrative-based photo submissions by UK and Indian photographers about family formations, histories, travel, metropolitanism, journalism and art practice as forms of visual communication as well as six essays by writers Christopher Pinney, Clare Harris, Divia Patel, Bhrigupati Singh, Chandrahas Choudhury, Janice Pariat and Tara Bedi. The exhibition and catalogue were curated and edited by Rahaab Allana and Nandita Jaishankar. Origins launched the Delhi Photo Festival 2015 of which it formed a part. It was accompanied by a 112-page Catalogue entitled Origins, published by the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts in collaboration with the British Council. |
