Description: | Carl An(t)dre is a special performance inspired by Carl Andre's infamous Equivalent (1966), comprising 20 young people dressed as ants, promenading through the landscape and accompanied by a youth marching band, whilst recreating Andre's sculpture. Carl An(t)dre is part of a series of works collectively titled Minimal Interventions – the culmination of more than five years of research into Minimalist sculptural practice that examines the implications in regard to authorship, performance and its canonisation within art history. Working with two youth groups based in Yorkshire – 412 Dance Theatre, New College Pontefract, and Bradford-based youth marching band, Revolution Show Corps – Jordan McKenzie ran a one week workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park that engaged with performance, sculpture and Minimalism. The workshop examined creative responses to site and the sculptures exhibited in the park. This culminated in the performance 'Carl An(t)dre'. |
Additional Information (Publicly available): | Carl An(t)dre is the result of a 2010 collaboration between the Live Art Development Agency and YSP, conceived by artist Joshua Soafar (Indecent Proposal project) and is funded by Arts Council England Grants for the Arts. |
