Description: | The 7 photographs from the photographic series ‘Ever After’ were exhibited as a large-scale outdoor installation for three months during the summer of 2009 - 5x35meters in scale - facing the Elephant & Castle roundabout in London (part of 'Elephant Outdoors'). Literally plunged into a deep shade, the kiss is both yet to come and concealed from view by its very anatomy, portraying the features of love through a overlapping distance between its profiles. Just as the images do not depict kisses, the work negotiates several layers of photographic impossibilities, thus investigating the metaphorical structure of such kissing: The invisible, as something unrepresentable. The inverted, as a negative-positive, inside-outside construction. The imaginary, as a future encounter. 'Ever After' is part of the larger body of work 'Lovers, Liars and Laughter' (2008). The project was published by the Photography and the Archive Research Centre as an issue of the research publication 'Fieldstudy', including the photographic series 'Ever After' alongside the story 'Lovers, Liars and Laughter', the drawings 'Days on End' and the text-based work 'At a Glance'. The publication was launched at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London on 14 November 2008 with a performance by the Shakespearean actor Kenneth Gilbert, other speakers were Melanie Manchot, AL Rees and Lisa Le Feuvre. |
