Description: | Introductory essay in Philosophy of Photography, vol. 7, no. 1&2, October 2016, guest edited by Bernd Behr. This special double issue takes as its starting point the symposium Shadow without Object held at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London, on 4 December 2015, co-presented by CCW Graduate School and the Photography Department at Camberwell College of Arts. The symposium considered emerging visual technologies against a wider historical context of overlooked and marginalized practices, presenting research and practices across visual art, particle physics, conservation and art history in order to challenge linear histories of photography and rethink the medium’s technical and conceptual operations beyond narrow dichotomies of past/future, analogue/digital and light/matter. |
