The role of culture, sport and heritage in place shaping

Research report commissioned by Department for Culture Media & Sport (DCMS) CASE) programme (the Culture and Sport Evidence (CASE) programme is a joint programme of strategic research led by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in collaboration with the Arts Council England (ACE), English Heritage (EH) and Sport England), undertaken by Prof Graeme Evans (academic lead) with TBR and New Economics Foundation.
This study focuses on generating evidence in relation to whether culture, sport and heritage infrastructure and investment have the ability to promote and drive positive economic and social outcomes at the local level. It aims to examine the extent to which culture, sport and heritage infrastructure and investment within a place influence (through direct and indirect impacts, tangible and intangible) the economy and society of that place. Crucially, the study focuses on a range of potential economic indicators and linkages to the presence of CS&H infrastructure (‘assets’) and investment.
