Orosei,Sardinia: Museo Don Giovanni Guiso

In the context of a special issue of the journal Theatre and Performance Design entitled 'On Models', this article draws attention to a little known but extensive collection of model theatres in the coastal town of Orosei in Sardinia. Initially discovered while the writer was on holiday, a return research visit uncovered the history of the collection and the reasons behind its rather unlikely siting in this small coastal resort. As well as drawing attention to the museum and the provenance of selected exhibits, the article argues that this overlooked collection of miniature theatres and model boxes offers a significant contribution to scenographic history at full scale.
