Description: | Commissioned by the Lux, this New Artist Focus essay examines the films of Ellie Kyungran Heo in the light of ecological and philosophical theories of eating, waste, assimilation and vulnerability. The text follows Kyungran Heo's films, especially her ongoing series Plantarians (2017-20), in observing and meditating on situational life cycles of food consumption and production. Anna L. Tsing, Donna Haraway, Bernard Stiegler, Jacques Derrida and plant philosophy act as companions on my journey through Kyungran Heo's filmic assemblages. |
