The Great Curdling

The Great Curdling is a project commissioned by The Whitstable Biennale 2022 comprising experimental narrative film, installation and live performance. It investigates the feeling that collective reality is at a tipping point. It creates a parallel world that speculates on the curdling of human subjectivities and ecologies by rampant neoliberal ideology.

Taking the form of a Folk-Sci-Fi, this darkly comic Musical film has shown as a video installation with sculptural elements, accompanied by a live musical performance featuring characters from the film. It has also shown as a stand alone single screen film.

A brief synopsis:
On a beach, two outcast women meet accidentally when they are attacked by autonomous flying packages. In a comfortable living room, a father is interrogated by an Alexa-like voice and his answers build a picture of a world where ‘animals ended’ but mourning them is taboo. Although the sea is dying, it's spawning a new kind of life –creatures that are half-cartoon, and take the form of tiny flexing hands. A funeral cult has formed, worshiping this new phenomena. It’s teaching the women how to re-format the colonised, curdled bodies of the dead into a new substance. This work is distributed internationally by Video Data Bank.
