Description: | 'Andromeda Africana’ was an illustrated lecture given by Kimathi Donkor at the symposium 'The Black Subject: Ancient to Modern' which took place at Tate Britain in 2015. The aim of the symposium was 'to take a broad historical sweep, using the Tate collection as a starting point for a discussion on depictions of people of African and Asian decent in British art, tracing a journey from subject to subjectivity'. Kimathi Donkor's talk was part of the session 'On Presence and Absence' and addressed the theme through an analysis of research made through and for his painting 'The Rescue of Andromeda' (2011). The discussion was chaired Prof Sukhdev Sandhu (NYU). A partial audio recording was made available on the Tate website (cutting off the last few seconds of the talk) at https://www.tate.org.uk/audio/black-subject-symposium-audio-recordings [Accessed 16-12-24] |
