Description: | My work currently looks at the carved surface and the craft of the cut, with its swelling and tapering lines and frayed edges, and small scale eraser cuts (rubber stamps) are the initial focus. The subsequent shift in scale, as small becomes large and eraser cuts become screen prints, lino or woodcuts, gives increased emphasis to process and technique, and unexpected results. A tacit knowledge of the uncertainty of outcomes from the interaction between surface and print increases the value of the experience. This shift in scale requires also a shift in the facilities to enable the printing process. My research is greatly supported by the opportunity to be involved with Ditchling Museum’s live printing event in April, The Big Steam Print, and the opportunity to print on a giant scale with a vintage steam roller, moving the print experience from the safety of the studio interior to the outside, with external environmental elements and unfamiliar equipment. |
